Clay Shirky's Views on the Internet and Social Media

"The moment our historical generation is living through, is the largest increase in expressive capability in human history" - Clay Shirky.

Clay Shirky's 'TedTalk' speech, demanded that we acknowledge the roles the internet and media are playing on social and historical platformsHe emphasizes the powerful transition we have made from having limited options to share messages, to our 'now' unlimited technological freedom to connect, learn and spread information.

"There are only four periods in the last 500 years, where media has changed enough to qualify for the label of revolution," said Shirky. As I watched him briefly discuss our progress; from typewriters to the development of the internet, I accepted that growth is promised here.

There is no denying the upward movement of the internet and its relationship with social media. The ideas Shirky expressed, were both logical and accurate. Additionally, Clay believes the internet is becoming more social. Proof of this can be seen through the absence of regulations on who can share information and the level of human interaction on this medium. Social media and the internet, are weighty tools for informing a mass media and allowing interaction within its realm.

We should embrace this evolution and be proud that we are the ones at its foundation.
